Commerce Secretary Gutierrez Visits Port of Charleston
CHARLESTON – Today, Congressman Henry Brown and Senator Jim DeMint welcomed Secretary of Commerce Carlos Gutierrez to Charleston. Brown and DeMint were joined by many local business leaders as they participated in a roundtable discussion. Brown-Authored Language to Improve Safety at Railroad Crossings Advances
WASHINGTON, DC - Language authored by Congressman Henry Brown was included in a compromise agreement to the Federal Railroad Safety Improvement Act of 2007, as it passed the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure last week. Congressman Brown’s language would establish a federal policy to support the development life-saving technology designed to prevent collisions at the over 140,000 railroad crossings in this country. In a meeting of the Committee last week, Congressman Brown expressed the need to develop and implement Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) technology:

House Passes Water Resources Legislation
WASHINGTON, DC - U.S. Representative Henry E. Brown, Jr. (SC-01) voted with a strong bipartisan majority yesterday to pass legislation authorizing approximately $14 billion in needed water resources studies and construction projects by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Included as part of the bill were several project authorizations sought by Brown and local communities to give the Army Corps the tools to improve the environment, conduct critical drainage improvements, and reduce coastal storm damage throughout the Waccamaw and Charleston Regions.
